Students who are the same age do not always have the same learning needs. For example, as shown in the figure below, students in the typical fourth grade classroom can range from first- to twelfth-grade reading level.
As you can see in the figure, most of the fourth grade students perform near the fourth grade reading level. However, a great many have reading achievement well above (or well below) the fourth-grade reading level. This means that their learning needs are quite different from the standard fourth-grade curriculum, as well as from their fourth-grade peers. Some argue that academically talented students don’t “need” services and can be challenged within the regular classroom. However, there is no evidence that most teachers can effectively teach twelve reading levels simultaneously without substantial support and training. This is not a criticism of teachers—juggling twelve sets of learning needs at one time is quite a task! Even common techniques, like forming small groups, put students performing three or more grade levels apart in the same group.
All students must demonstrate that they have the maturity and personal skills to cope with university level study and will be able to gain full benefit from the course when admitted.
There’s no age requirement for admission to Cambridge, although the vast majority of undergraduates are 18 years or older when they start their course. If you’ll be over 21 when you start your course you are classified as a mature student.
The present survey was voluntarily and anonymously completed by 2,196 students enrolled in business courses at the University of Southern Mississippi. The intent of the survey was to determine whether or not age or gender played a role in a person’s perception of proper ethical conduct.
Students were divided into groups according to age as follows: under 21 years, 22–30 years, 31–40 years, and 40 plus years. The results of this survey also suggest that age is a determining factor in making ethical decisions. The statistics suggest that those students falling in the 40 plus years age group were the most ethical, followed in order by the 31–40 group, the 22–30 group and those of 21 years of age and under.
Every child, from the year after they turn 5 must be enrolled at and attending school, or an approved home education program. Children can also attend Kindergarten from 4 years of age.
This means that a child who has turned five on or by 1 January in any year must start Prep in that year, or be provided with approved home education.
